On-line Novel: The Immoral, Chapter 2

After Ronald hung up the phone, he sauntered from the kitchen toward the living room. There, in the middle sat a glass-top coffe table. Right between two heavy gold candlesticks laid the family Bible. He picked it up and flipped it open quickly. Closing his eyes, he trailed his finger blindly down the page and counted to five and then stopped. There, he peeked at the scripture.

It read: Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear which pertaineth unto a man,  neither shall a man put on a woman's garment for all that do so are an abomination unto the Lord thy God.

His mouth fell open and his eyes went wide. "What?" He said out into the room. "Why are you picking on me? I can't help it." He couldn't help that he liked girl clothes and make-up and even Cassandra's dreamy-Schneider. The last part he'd keep to himself all the way to the grave.

"Did you say something, Ronnie!" His mother hollered from her bedroom. She had her Do-Not-Disturb sign hanging on her door. Afternoons were for her cocktails and naps even though she had all day to herself for those. She didn't work like Cassandra's mom.

"No!" He yelled back. "Just doing some homework!" A trickle of sweat ran down his left temple as heat rose from his toes all the way to his cheeks. Shame and anger being the instigators.

" Just keep it down. You know your mama needs her beauty rest before the head cheese comes home."

"Okay."

He glanced down at the verse again. "Why are you picking on me about this, God? You know I'm different. I always have been." He fanned through the pages and it stopped in the book of James. His eyes caught a verse that he could use for confirmation. But he took it just as personally as he did the first one. 

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

"What? Are you telling me this is the devil's fault?" He whispered." But you made me like this. Didn't you?"

Psychic Sylvia Browne

psychic silvia Sylvia Browne is a self-proclaimed psychic and medium who has forty-seven titles to her name and has appeared on many talk shows. She frequents Montel William’s show and Larry King. In 1974, she gave her first reading. She claims to know what heaven is like, sees angels, speaks to a spirit guide named Francine, and is able to predict the future.

Many experts say she uses a cold read technique equal to a mentalist to do her readings. This said, she could be a fraud. Wikipedia gives a list of her failed  readings and YouTube has clips of her being exposed as a charlatan.

She also has a church in Campbell, California, the Society of Novus Spiritus. Although, she claims to be a Gnostic Christian, her teachings include other religious beliefs. Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. The church and its teaching believe God loves everyone including atheists and everyone goes to The Other Side-heaven.

While researching her info, I found her website. She charges 550 dollars for readings and her son, Chris, charges 200. But Wikipedia stated on their website, Ms. Brown charges 850 dollars for a twenty or thirty minute reading.

After researching Ms. Browne, I came to this conclusion: buyer beware. The world is full of smooth talkers who know how to market themselves as experts. They prey on the most vulnerable in their time of need.

So do real psychics exist? Eventually I’ll do a post on this. But over the next several months, I’ll be posting on all the popular ones. What I’m finding is a lot of disappointments, both in the psychics and the TV personalities who promote them.

Pastor Dale floated toward my bed. “Sometimes the living and the dead unleash things into their lives unwittingly.” His expression went gloomy.

“What did I do now?”

“Its all about the path you chose. When you choose the wrong one, sometimes things happen like a domino effect. Even when you attempt to correct things.” Pastor Dale took my hand into his cold one. “You have a fight on your hands, but God will be with you.”

“I know.” Gram had already warned me.

“Remember this, demons come in many forms. Even as people we know and love,” Pastor Dale said before he vanished into thin air. “Sometimes they seek out to kill.”
