The Mist in my Brain

Ever feel like you know what you want to say, but you can't find the words. Information overload. Too many mind files to sort through to best express what you want to say? Possibly.

This past week has been tough. As most of you who follow my blog already know, I deal with Hashaimoto's Disease. It's where your own body attacks the thyroid.

So even though I take my medicine, clean with vinegar and baking soda, and eat organic and gluten free meals, there are times when I feel out of balance. Not to mention, my brain goes foggy on me.

My best remedy for this since I'm a writer is to hand write out your thoughts or a scene. Even if you're working on an article for informational purposes, hand write it.

Handwriting slows my thoughts down, articulating scenes in my misty mind or trying to formulate a coherent line of facts.

I refuse to give into fatigue and all of its little friends that want to debilitate me.

Do any of you struggle with autoimmune?
How do you deal with your writing when you have flare ups?

Hugs and chocolate,
Shelly

  1. Aw. Information overload. That's too familiar for me. That's why I keep a notepad to write down whenever ideas trickle in so I don't have to be overwhelmed when it all comes together.

I hope you feel better. Just take some rest and you'll be replenished.

  2. It's true. Writing long-hand, which is how I began writing, is a good way to slow things down.
Hope you're feeling better, Chocolate hugs.

  3. It is. In spite of all the tech I now, have, I find I still get nowhere if I don't write first drafts in longhand. I have arthritis, so holding a pen isn't easy. I found putting the pen inside a foam hair roller helps a lot.

  5. Hi human, Shelly,

As you will know, my human, Gary, so relates to fatigue. It's frustrating and especially since the words are there but my human is just too exhausted to even bother.

Thankfully, he has me doing my best to take over in his absence. He's yet to get a named diagnosis.

Wishing you well, my lovely human friend.

    Pawsitive wishes, your way,

    Penny!

    1. Been taking it a little easy. Thank you, Penny. Hair Ball is a big help, too. Plus, he's feeling better now.

  6. I've got tendonitis in my right hand plus some arthritis. Kills me to think of writing much by hand. I feel for you. My hubby has Fibromyalgia and he deals with that out of balance stuff a lot. *hugs*

    1. It's annoying really. Especially for a writer because people know what you're capable of and then your production shows otherwise.

  8. Shelly, Not sure how I missed it, but I did not know you were diagnosed with Hashaimotos disease. I have both Raynauds & Sjogrens, but also have been diagnosed with Hashaimotos disease. The only problem is with HD, my 'numbers' don't always come out bad so my endocrinologist doesn't want to start treatment yet. #sigh Between the extreme fatigue from Sjogrens and the limbo with HD, I totally understand your struggle with brain fog and exhaustion. It's insane. So insane, I haven't really written anything new in four months. :( Ever want to chat about feel free to email me. :)

    1. I hope your doc figures it out soon. They have a tendency to be by the book. Everyone is unique. I almost died before they figured that out.that was 15 years ago. Curb what you eat. No gluten. No processed foods. High protien to carb diet. Do what you can while you wait for your doctor to get his act together.

  9. I'm fortunate enough not to have health problems like yours. I do hand write, though. Slowing down helps me figure out where a story is going.

  10. I am sorry to hear you are going through this. :( I keep hearing so many stories similar to yours that I could go off on a Monsanto rage but I won't. The hubby and I were really surprised that our B/P checks came back normal given what is happening right now and all the emotions associated with that. I have missed so many of your posts. I recently reread your book, Secondhand Shoes. I was wondering if Killer Stilettos was out yet?
