ISWG: How Do You Find Time to Write in Your Busy Day?

Hope this ISWG post finds everyone well. This month our question was my title: how do you find time to write in your busy day?

Personally, I schedule in my writing since I work a 30 to 36 hour work week.  Scribble time is always in the morning except when I'm off, then I flip it to the evening so I can run some errands  and a get nap in.

Here's what my schedule looks like 5 days a week.

5 AM Get out of bed and take out dogs
5:30 AM Devotion and prayer
6 AM Breakfast
6:30 AM Breakfast for the dogs
7 AM Walk the dogs
7:30 AM Take myself for a walk
8 - 9 AM A house chore- I clean one room a day
10 AM - 12 NOON- I shoot for a 1000 words

From 12:30 to 2 PM, I'm eating lunch and getting ready for work.

Saturday evenings are used to do research for my articles on Freedom Nation News (which I've been slacking on lately) and Sunday evenings are for writing my blogs. And somewhere between all this stuff, I'm reading a book. If I didn't have a schedule, I can't say I would stick to anything.

PROJECT UPDATE: The Lie is halfway done. It's the project I've been working on. That's why I've hardly been around.

Here's the opening line just for fun:

“I’m telling you, she’s not normal,” my mom said, the umpteenth time she’d made that accusation since my divorce from my first husband. “Her vagina looks like a freight train went right through it.”

  1. That's what I do - I schedule time and make it happen no matter what. Glad you have a schedule that works for you.

    1. I have to have a schedule or I'll procrastinate.

  2. I've never lived by a schedule, aside from having to be at work at a certain time, though I do have habits that might be sort of like a schedule. No getting up at 5am though, ayay! Too early!

  3. I write full-time--when I can get my brain to cooperate!

  4. Great that you can keep to your schedule. Like you, I take out the pup at 5:30 and 7:00... I am trying to train him longer. We are shooting for an 11am walk instead of his usual 10:00... so far so good... we are at 10:15. LOL.

The HEAT is helping keep him in. He hates it when it's too hot.

I need to come up with some writing schedule soon. I've been out of it too long. Thankfully I am back to blogging, so I am getting the inspiration I so much need.

    1. If I didhn't have a schedule, I can't say I'd stick to it. Case in point, I've had three vacation days this week and I haven't worked much on my novel at all.

  5. "I take myself for a walk." Ha, love it. Sounds like you have a schedule that works well for you. If I wrote out my schedule like that, maybe I'd do a better job of sticking to it. Congrats on your writing progress! I love your ghostly header.

  6. You're schedule's really planned out well. I do admit to getting distracted. I need to do better than that.

  8. Now that I'm back to work, I may have an hour and 1/2 window to work... unless I take a nap. But really, there's no time to dally on the Internet much. I do have a loose schedule that I keep. keep at it, Shelly, Chocolate hugs!

  9. I used to write every day. Now that I've gone rural, my schedule changes with the season. During the growing season I don't write much except for those insomnia nights. In winter, I write more.

  11. Wow. That puts my lack of a morning schedule to shame! I like that you clean one room a day. It makes housework less overwhelming. I need to adopt that strategy!

  13. Shelly, I'm impressed with how disciplined you are in your routine! You really know how to make the most of your days, and it's great that you schedule time to walk yourself after you walk the dogs!

  15. You did the question this time, and I forgot it existed. I wish I could do better at having a routine, but I've discovered I can't force it.

  16. I was certain I stopped by and said hi this last month, but maybe I didn't. Two hours and 1000 words... That's epic. That's typically my norm too, when life is on target...meaning not during the release months. Whew! Crazy times, eh?
