An On-line Novel: Punishment

It's time for another excerpt. My, the time flies.

Cassandra swallowed back something pasty. The home room teacher left her mouth dry. She didn't know what to make of him. Friend or fiend. His beedy brown eyes had a wild look in them. And she couldn't tell if his crooked smile was just that or a permanent scowl.

"Well, Miss Berg?" Mr. Haggerman reached for the yellow pad laying on her desk top, and picked it up.

He brought it close to his face and a cocked a silvery brow.

She silently drummed her fingers against her desk. Hope he doewassn't get upset with my doodles. It's something she did when nervous or was under pressure. Making her, the newbie in the class, the monitor on the first day was beyond fair. It didn't help that her new classmates were demons from hell. Their actions were far from Christian. She lifted her chin and glanced at the kids to her right beyond Mr. Haggerman. They most definitely deserved whatever the Hangman was going to dish out.

"Well done, Miss Berg." The teacher made an about face with his pad and headed toward his podium. "Looks like everyone minus Miss Berg and Mr. Fisher, will have to write out Proverbs four, three times before they leave my class today. At the end of the week, you will be have to write the whole thing from memory."

Cassandra let out a silent sigh and flashed a look at Ronald.

He pressed his lips together.

"You two will pay later," Gruber whispered from behind her.

One of the girls sitting way in the back let out a snort. Gruber responded with a frog croak.

"Looks like we'll add half of Proverbs five to the two of you." He peered over his black-rimmed glasses at the boy behind her and then at the girl.

Cassandra knew these kids weren't opt to walking in compassion and forgiveness. It so sucks to be me and Ronnie. But her friend did have a battle plan. This day wasn't going to end well. That was for sure.

Television: Another Holiday Kidnapped!

Right now we're in the midst of celebrating three different holidays ... or not. We've got Easter, the Resurrection of Jesus, and Passover.

The Pagans can rightly argue that the Christians stole bunnies and eggs and even the name from them. It's true though. I agree with them.

The name Easter gets it's name from the fertility goddesses: Ishtar, Ostara, Eoster, Astarte. These gals usually had male god consorts, who are depicted as dying and being reborn.

Two of the most important symbols for these ladies were the hare and the egg.

Egg hunts were held in their honor. Women hunted for these cherished items. If they found one, it was said that they would become pregnant within the year.

This was celebrated way before the Passover or the Resurrection of Jesus.

Around 325 AD, Emperor Constantine absorbed the pagan Roman religion into Christianity's to make the new converts feel at home and to stop widespread violence in his land.

Our Jewish friends and Sweetman, celebrate Passover. It's to remember God's mercy by delivering the Israelites out of Egypt. Those who had painted  blood around their doorways were spared His wrath and judgment.

The Christians celebrate the last supper, the death, the burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

Messianic celebrate the later two like myself. But I don't do the bunnies and eggs along with it.

Unfortunately, there is always so much pressure to buy stuff no matter how you celebrate it. Greeting cards are like five bucks a piece. Candy is outrageous. The price of food for the feasts has really been tipping the scales. Personally, I'm exhausted from it all.

Has commercialism hi-jacked all three? It looks that way to me.

Why can't we just have a holiday without the commercialism and the fuss? Why can't we just have quiet self-reflection? Quiet prayer? Time with our families without all the excess?

What do you all think?

Hope everyone had a nice, quiet holiday.

Hugs and chocolate, all,
Shelly
