Psychic Sylvia Browne

psychic silvia Sylvia Browne is a self-proclaimed psychic and medium who has forty-seven titles to her name and has appeared on many talk shows. She frequents Montel William’s show and Larry King. In 1974, she gave her first reading. She claims to know what heaven is like, sees angels, speaks to a spirit guide named Francine, and is able to predict the future.

Many experts say she uses a cold read technique equal to a mentalist to do her readings. This said, she could be a fraud. Wikipedia gives a list of her failed  readings and YouTube has clips of her being exposed as a charlatan.

She also has a church in Campbell, California, the Society of Novus Spiritus. Although, she claims to be a Gnostic Christian, her teachings include other religious beliefs. Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. The church and its teaching believe God loves everyone including atheists and everyone goes to The Other Side-heaven.

While researching her info, I found her website. She charges 550 dollars for readings and her son, Chris, charges 200. But Wikipedia stated on their website, Ms. Brown charges 850 dollars for a twenty or thirty minute reading.

After researching Ms. Browne, I came to this conclusion: buyer beware. The world is full of smooth talkers who know how to market themselves as experts. They prey on the most vulnerable in their time of need.

So do real psychics exist? Eventually I’ll do a post on this. But over the next several months, I’ll be posting on all the popular ones. What I’m finding is a lot of disappointments, both in the psychics and the TV personalities who promote them.

I’m still a Ninja Writer, but I keep forgetting to post my numbers. Right now I have twelve organized chapters to Yellow Prada’s. I’m even considering another title, Stilettos. What do you all think?

Yellow Prada’s

Pastor Dale floated toward my bed. “Sometimes the living and the dead unleash things into their lives unwittingly.” His expression went gloomy.

“What did I do now?”

“Its all about the path you chose. When you choose the wrong one, sometimes things happen like a domino effect. Even when you attempt to correct things.” Pastor Dale took my hand into his cold one. “You have a fight on your hands, but God will be with you.”

“I know.” Gram had already warned me.

“Remember this, demons come in many forms. Even as people we know and love,” Pastor Dale said before he vanished into thin air. “Sometimes they seek out to kill.”

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I’ll be loppity-lopping of course.

Hugs and chocolate,

Shelly

  1. I'm more of a cynic when it comes to stuff like this. I don't believe in it and I think that Sylvia Browne is the worst of them all. I had a friend that went to go see John Edward live and she actually got a reading. There were several things that were off and she felt like he was guessing until he got something right. Obviously, when seeing him live, it's not edited like it is on TV. I don't know. I'm curious to see what others will say about your post.

    1. Truthfully, I believe these peeps are just smooth talkers who know how to market themselves well. If only I could market my book like that. Hmm...

  2. I've read a couple of Sylvia Browne's books. She talks as though her powers are of the purest and most righteous and no other psychic can compare to her awesomeness. With the exception of her son, of course, whom she has been training since birth.

    1. She charges more than a psychologist does. I say it be cheaper to see a shrink during a vulnerable time.

      Thanks for coming by.

  3. Awesome excerpt. I like the Stiletto idea too and yes, some psychics are lame but there are real ones.

  4. I do like that excerpt, Shelly!

And this woman comes across as a swindler. They may be good at figuring out human nature... and then using that to their advantage to cheat the unsuspecting.

  5. Psychics come and psychics go. anyone remember Jean Dixion? Wow, does that date me or what? And anyone who charges huge for a reading ($800???), has got to be a phony. Usually they are someone who can read body language and other skills to come to some conclusion about you. They also have been known to cheat somehow to learn more about you before they see you.

I like the Stiletto idea, Shelly. Maybe Yellow Stilettos? Or Red. Why yellow?

Anyway I remember this passage as one you sent me. Very good the way you ended it like you did.

  6. Yellow is significant to Oshun. In Santeria, she is a goddess who stole her sister's husband.

  7. I love both titles - and your passage. And I love hearing your thoughts on psychics. ;) I'm not a fan.

  8. Nice post and ya know the one thing I think about psychics is, why have they never won the big Powerballs? :/ If I was a psychic, that is the first thing I am looking for, the numbers! :) Definitely enjoyed reading your ninja writing bit.

  9. I know. I'd be wanting the numbers , too. Glad you liked it.

  10. yep I don't buy into anyone being psychic. They are clever, yes, but frauds to what they claim they can do. That's not to say I don't believe in mindpower and certain intuition being stronger than others. :D

    1. One must be careful. As for intuition we all have it. Some are in tune while others aren't so much.

  11. Yay for ninja writing! I like "Stilettos." It's succinct and conveys a certain image.

There's a local author here who is also a psychic. She said she considered working for a psychic line, but it was pointless, because people only want the positive and specific news (does he love me, etc.). She's also a psychiatrist, I think it is, so I thought that quite applied to psychics using intuition and reading people. Who better? However, she doesn't sell her "services" and doesn't really talk to people about it much, nor does she offer to do readings of any sort.

    1. Very cool. I have two friends who are psychic but they don't make it widely known that they are. One is a psychiatric nurse and the other gal actually teach others on how to tap into their intuition.

  12. I agree this is cool! I have mixed feelings about psychic. I think they are low key, not fame whores.

    Intriguing to think about ;D
I love Yellow Prada's, but agree
Stilettos really brings the image into focus~
Nicely done Shelly! Hugs to you

    1. I believe the real psychics are low key and don't gloat.

Also, thinking about calling the story, even, Killer Stilettos.

  13. I think real psychics are very rare, and don't go about promoting themselves as much as the fake ones.

    1. I totally agree with you. The real ones want to help not hinder and steal your money.
