ISWG: Happy 4th, everyone!

It's been a couple of weeks too long since I've posted anything. I missed the Insecure Writer's  Group last month. My computer was on the fritz.

Finally got it back. YAY! I've also been busy writing on a new project. Working on a memoir dealing with the dependency court system. A handful of social workers asked me to do this so I am. The first draft should be finished by the end of August. I don't see why not.

I hope everyone is enjoying their 4th of July. I am.

Took a 3 mile walk this morning. Did a little housework. Called a few friends and family. Went to the show to see Independence Day: Resurgence. Just cleaned up the kitchen from making steak and corn on the cob. Now I'm working on my writing.

Anyway....

I'm thank God for the freedom to write what I want, when I want. I'm thankful for Freedom of Speech. However, as you know its under attack. Our young people don't seem to understand what it means. They don't know how to agree to disagree. There's been a lot of bullying going on. Too much political correctness.Little things like these will eat away at all of our freedoms if people keep at each others' throats.

So yeah...

"In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be achieved." - Franklin D. Roosevelt
"The history of free men is never really written by chance but by choice; their choice!" - - Dwight D. Eisenhower
This post was brought to you on behalf of Alex J. Cavanaugh's Insecure Writer's Group. It's for those of us who need encouragement or wish to encourage. If interested click on the ISWG icon to the top right of your computer screen.

So does anyone find that political correctness might be a tool to take away our Freedom of Speech?

Hugs and chocolate, all,
Shelly

  1. I found another quote on freedom:
"Personal liberty is the paramount essential to human dignity and human happiness." ~Bulwer-Lytton
    Happy 4th, Shelly!
And good luck on the new WIP.

  3. Political correctness a tool to take away freedom of speech? Absolutely!

I remember the topic of inclusion coming up in a Sunday School class some years ago. The class leader said that our young people have sadly come to think that not persecuting someone equals acceptance and support of immoral actions. Now, taking it ten big steps further, we're being persecuted for not embracing immorality.

  4. YOU BET! One can't say ANYTHING these days without offending someone. It's utterly ridiculous.

I am all for not using horrid slang words for races and cultures, but when you have to watch EVERY WORD....

I mean I was corrected the other day when I mentioned multiracial. What the heck is wrong with that? What do you say? UGH...

Hope everything is going well for you Shelly...

I missed last months post, too...Thankfully I'm all ready for tomorrow...

Anyway, I'm good just busy. Too many pokers in the fire overwhelm me.

  5. I thought I'd been missing your face around the blogosphere. I hope you had an amazing 4th. I think political correctness is kind of a funny thing. If we didn't have such open communication world wide, I don't think it would be as much a concern.

    1. Yeah. I'm still here. Now I've got a very important deadline so I may not post again until the next ISWG.

    2. I hear you! (I skipped out on a week too.) Will we get to hear about what has you so detained? I hope so.

  6. You ARE busy. I had a great 4th. It's always my son's birthday. Ha.

Political correctness has gone too far and wouldn't be needed if people would mind their mouths and be kind. Racism and all of the other ism's never need to happen.

    1. I had thought racism had died. But now we're having race riots over police actions. Sometimes black on black. It's out of control.

  7. Good to see you back! I hadn't thought about political correctness taking away from freedom of speech, but I'd have to agree that it does so at times. You have to be on your toes ensuring you don't say anything anyone can take out of context or be offended about. And there will always be someone who's offended.
