Lady Lumps

"Look at you," Sweetman said, grabbing me by the arm, turning me to face the mirror. "You're losing body mass. Your Lady Lumps are shrinking."

I study myself, and shrug. "Guess I'm the opposite of most menopausal women." Within a month I dropped 10 pounds...and not water weight. Sweetman's right about losing body mass. But I figure after the crazy year we've had with his cancer, the grandbaby, and the daughter...well...it just has to be stress.

"Why aren't you taking this seriously? This is your health we're talking about!"

Okay. So I went to see the doctor. She ran all kinds of blood tests per the Sweetman. This included tomber markers, which came back negative.

But when the doctor felt around my neck and thyroid, she said, "You've got a lump."

Wednesday, I go for an ultrasound of the thyroid. It's probably a goiter. Something common for peeps with Hashaimoto's Disease. It's nothing serious, but will end up being surgically removed.

Anyone else out there coping with a thyroid disease?

Hugs and chocolate,
Shelly

  1. I'm not... but surgery is never a fun thing.

  3. I have "complex" benign thyroid nodules. One is 2.5 cm. I'm opting out of the surgery for now since my levels are okay.

  4. My cousin is. It's fairly new to her, still, so it's been an adjustment for her, but she seems to be doing well.

  5. Thyroid diseases are not difficult to deal with unless a person waits a long time to get a diagnosis. I had one when I was younger. Finding out what it was and treating it made my life a lot better.

    1. I was pretty sick before the actual diagnosis. It caused hair loss, dementia, and lots of weight gain. But I know this isn't a real big deal and is easy to treat.

  7. I'm so sorry that you need to have surgery. Thank goodness that "Sweetman" convinced you to see the doctor. Wishing you all the best Shelly.

  8. My thyroid's lazy--it doesn't work much. I had a goiter, years ago--we never knew what caused it, and it went away on its own. Hope yours does the same.

    1. Mine can swing from lazy to overactive. Right now its overactive...all of a sudden. Oh I would love for it to go away by itself.
