A to Z Challenge, Day 13: O is for Oh My…Owie, Owie, Owie

Sunday, yesterday, and today I woke with hives. Sweetman washed our bed sheets in Tide. I’m terribly allergic and he knows better. His excuse, ‘it smells better then my organic detergent’. Oh my…

But my main character, Lila, well she’s got other problems and it isn’t an allergy rash. Below is a little diddy:

“Ow ow ow,” I said, dropping the handgun and grabbing my foot. My foot landed on something prickly.

“What?” Cynthia said.

I leaned against a tree and examined my foot. A tiny hairy-looking-barbed thing stuck into the fleshy part of my heel. “It’s a sand spur.”

“Pick it out,” Cynthia said.

“Aw,ow,ow, owie, I’m trying. It’s not coming out.”

“Sit and give me your foot. I’ll do it,” Cynthia said, putting the rifle on the ground.

  1. Waking up with hives is not a good way to wake up.

I don't think I've ever experienced a sand spur before but I did once step barefoot on a path of stinging nettles. They weren't wrong about the name.

  2. I agree ouchie to both the hives and the barb in the foot.

  3. I hope you feel better soon. Mine washed my cell phone with the sheets after I told him my cell phone had been on the bed and was definitely in the laundry basket with the sheets.

    1. That's funny. I've washed my hair cutting scissors by accident in the washer. They were hiding in a towel.

As for husbands what we do without them?

  4. There is few worse ways to wake up than to wake up itching, unless is it pain in the foot just about anything.

    1. And thank you for stopping be mine and following me. I love the picture, too. I found it on the web and it so fits the novel I've written.

though they can be funny if they're happening to someone else!

    1. That would depend on how they actually hurt thier foot. Especially if its in a slap stick kind of way.

    1. The story right now is in limbo since my original editor died. And I need to get my MS back from her hubby so I can pass it on to the new editor. There's always something messing up the PLAN.
